HAZOP facilitation and safeguard design for refinery facilities

Refinery facilities carry major accident hazard potential. The client needed an independent, structured process hazard analysis to confirm that existing safeguards were adequate and to identify where additional layers of protection were required.

We facilitated a full HAZOP study across the defined nodes, working with the client technical team through deviations, causes, consequences and existing safeguards. Recommendations were developed against the layers of protection: detection systems, process interlocks, safety instrumented systems, containment arrangements and emergency response measures. Each recommendation was ranked, assigned an owner and tracked.

The client obtained a documented, defensible process hazard analysis with a prioritised safeguard improvement register covering detection, control, containment and response.
